Welcome to One Speaker, Two Dialects!

This site is part of an ESRC funded sociolinguistic study of speakers from a small Scottish community.  Specifically, we’re investigating bidialectalism, but more on this later….

The site has three aims:

  1. to provide some background to the project and to document its progress.
  2. to provide some information that might be useful to people carrying out similar research. This section will be on the more techy, linguistics-oriented side of things.
  3. to provide a forum for discussion of language and dialect. This is your chance to have your say, not only on this specific project, but also your own experiences of language use.

There are a range of contributors to the site (see The Team) although the main blogger will be Sophie Holmes-Elliott, who is the project Research Assistant (RA).
